My Story
I didn’t start in education. I started in journalism. I earned my BA in Journalism from the University of Memphis in 2008 and went straight into the world of national magazines. First as an assistant editor at Justine Magazine, a national teen publication, then at M-Teen Magazine. I loved the energy of deadlines, the craft of storytelling, and the challenge of making complex ideas accessible.
But something kept pulling me toward the classroom. I went back to school, earned my MA in Teaching from Christian Brothers University, and discovered that teaching was where all my skills converged: writing, communication, creativity, and the ability to break down big ideas into something a child could not just understand but get excited about.
I found my home in gifted education. For the past 16 years, I’ve worked with K–5 students across the spectrum of giftedness: the intense questioners, the creative daydreamers, the twice-exceptional kids who don’t fit neatly into any box. Since 2019, I’ve served as the Lead Gifted Academics Educator and Case Manager at Farmington Elementary in the Germantown Municipal School District.
In that role, I coordinate the Envision Expo, our district-wide project-based learning exhibition where students present original research and creative work. I was honored as GMSD Gifted Lead Educator (2024), Employee Who Empowers (2023), and Teacher of the Month (2023).
I’m also a mom. I know what it’s like to juggle schedules, worry about whether your kid is getting enough challenge, and wonder if their intensity is something to nurture or manage. (Spoiler: it’s something to nurture.)
I still write. I’ve been freelancing since 2009, covering everything from beauty and fashion to real estate and retail. The editorial discipline I learned at national magazines shapes everything I create. Every lesson plan, every resource, every blog post.
I built Thynkbloom because the strategies I use in my classroom shouldn’t stay in my classroom. Parents and teachers everywhere deserve access to thoughtful, research-based tools for gifted learners. This platform is how I share what 16 years of working with bright kids has taught me.
